Front View: Gucci U-play Interchangeable Women's Gold Leather and Stainless Steel Watch

Gucci Women’s U-play Interchangeable Medium Gold Leather Watch YA129408, was created as part of an, indeed, playful series of timepieces. Although this particular watch comes with a matching gold-leather bezel and wristband, the U-Play Collection allows the wearer to switch out the bezel and watchband for other colors, textures and styles, to match her mood or preference. Hence the name.

This watch comes with no lack of the hallmarks of the Gucci style, namely the iconic horse-bits visible on the strap and clasps, as well as interlocking G-patterns stamped on the leather wristband, inside and out. Personally, I find a product that is covered with the designer’s name and / or logo from top to bottom to be a bit gaudy, as well as unnecessary.  The watch clearly displays the Gucci name right on the dial. Does it really need to be stamped all over the rest of the watch? However, I do like the abstract, art deco-reminiscent use of the interlocking-G on the dial. For me, it is the most chic and appealing aspect of this timepiece.

This Product’s Features Include:

• Medium-sized case. There is a smaller, bangle version of this watch, but it does not include the interchangeability features or choices.
• Swiss-made analog, precision Quartz movement and scratch-resistant, anti-reflective sapphire crystal.
• Round silver dial, with art deco-style, interlocking G-pattern, and Gucci name, under the 12 o’clock position.
• Luminescent, silver hour and minute hands.
• Case is water resistant to 30 meters or 99 feet. However, keep in mind the bezel and wristband are leather, so exposure to water should be avoided.
• Solid leather buckle-style band (the aforementioned smaller bangle version comes with stainless steel band).
• Stainless steel case, 35mm in diameter.
• Matching round bezel and wristband in gold calfskin leather, interchangeable with other colors, textures and styles.
• Interchangeable bezel and wristband choices for the U-play Collection include a wide array of colors and materials – pistachio, brown, lizard or ostrich skin, satin, patent and Guccissima leather, stainless steel, and rubber.

Potential Drawbacks:

This is a handsome timepiece by itself. Would I really want to invest the extra money in different interchangeable parts? For myself, no. Either it is a watch that I can wear everyday as is, or I do not want the bother. However, there are, undoubtedly, people who would enjoy this, and perhaps thrive on having a multitude of fashion choices.

While I think the watch dial is very attractive, having no markers for hours or minutes always makes me squint for a moment, to be sure of the time
