Men’s I-Gucci YA114212 Watch Review. Lets Get Digital.

- There are subtle, beautiful watches made to last and to withstand the test of time. Their bands are elegant and simple, delicate or strong, but always classic, yet modern. They are the slinky silver watches worn by wealthy women, and the formidable, never-flashy pieces worn by men. This watch, the I-Gucci YA114212, is not one of them. The I-Gucci Series, originally introduced in 2008 to celebrate the Beijing Olympic games, is Gucci’s first line of digital watches, boasting an athletic, casual style without sacrificing the crucial elements that Gucci is known for: style, and creme-de-la-creme luxury. And while the bold, unique style of this watch may not be for everyone, it certainly makes a statement.
- With a bright red, rubber band bearing an argyle-type pattern of the iconic Double G Gucci logo, and a deployment buckle similar to that of the Casio athletic watch you used to own in the 4th grade, the I-Gucci models are Gucci’s attempt to make a truly casual line of watches that still say “high-end.” Inspired by the playfulness of Japanese style and the never-vanishing comeback of bright, flashy 90s colors, the band itself is enough to draw attention. Yet the true masterpiece here, however, is the gorgeous and modernly designed digital face. Made of crystal, and entirely waterproof, the durable front includes an analog display of your “home” time, as well as a display of the GMT time for wherever you may be visiting locally. The face also includes a day of the week and date display, which is incredibly useful when traveling, or if you, like me, can be forgetful.

This watch combines cutting edge Italian style with an American love of bling, and the I-Gucci series boasts such celebrity followers as Kanye West and Paris Hilton. And while this watch basically screams GUCCI for the sake of it, that doesn’t mean its anything less than the best quality. Like all Gucci watches, its guaranteed for two years, and handcrafted with the highest quality materials by skilled craftsmen. The YA114212 runs for anywhere between $725US to the Gucci list-price of $1395 US.
