Gucci YA055519 G-Class Ladies’ Wristwatch

The Gucci YA055519 is part of Gucci’s G-class lineup, and is for the woman looking for a watch that is a watch first and foremost, and an accessory second. This isn’t to say this timepiece is unattractive, merely that it isn’t flashy. It has a trustworthy appearance that only stainless steel construction can give.

Who says Utilitarian isn't Elegant?

While there are many watches featuring stainless steel housings, this watch also features a band made from stainless steel links. It has a silver-tone dial and silver-tone hands to match for a simple monochromatic appeal. You need not fear marring the face as the dial is protected with an anti-scratch sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 30 meters.

Like other Gucci offerings, this watch uses a Swiss quartz movement. It also features a date at three o’ clock, though it only sports the day, leaving the task of remembering the current month and year up to the wearer. The dial is marked with silver tone stick markers at the hours, and smaller black minute markers around the rim–just like school clocks used to have back when we taught children to read analog clocks.

The bezel is a lovely design whose overall shape is that of a classic round watch, but the detail is of two overlapping horseshoes. This is the simpler version as its sibling, the YA055519 has gold plating on the upper horseshoe and making a checkerboard pattern on the links.

Push Button deployment clasp

Sweet.

Unlike some other watches, this one shows a desire for functionality as it makes getting information from the watch the centerpiece of design. This watch has good contrast with a white face and (wait for it) black hands. This simple feature is easily overlooked until you’ve seen some other high end watches that are more about being noticed than about being used. They have lots of flash but they are very difficult to read due to poor contrast between the dial and the hands–especially if you are in to your third Appletini.

The clasp is an interesting feature. Commonly, when getting a watch with a metal strap, the clasp is a hideous affair of overlapping metal plates. This watch uses a deployment clasp with a push button release. The clasp opens in a butterfly-like motion, and when closed is completely concealed, giving rise to curiosity as to how you managed to get the watch on in the first place.
